Our Team

Jan Marè

Having faced the hardships of poverty and strife from an early age, Jan has dedicated his life to uplifting the downtrodden. From his first humble jobs as a newspaper delivery boy and waiter until his success as a manager in the hospitality industry and becoming a full-time Pastor, he has always understood that improving true quality of life is achieved by the community.

As a founding member of Younited Communities, Jan brings his years of experience in setting up and running Public Benefit Organisations to our movement. We can assure a better future through our unity, and it can start with you.

Barry East

Born and raised in Westville, Durban. Barry spent a year in the US after completing university, but returned to South Africa in 2001.  Soon after his return he spent a year in Cape Town before returning to Durban to get married and start his family. 

Barry spent 17 years in the light current electronic and software design industry, developing access control and identification solutions.  In 2017 he co-founded BeSecure (Pty) Ltd, starting his journey into community focused solutions, developing aged care, access control, visitor management and LPR solutions.  In 2019 he co-founded OneSpace (Pty) Ltd and merged BeSecure with Gatebook (Pty) Ltd to create a single community-centric solution all available in one space. 

Through OneSpace Barry has been a driving force behind the creation and growth of a number of large residential and business communities.  As a business, OneSpace is focused on developing and deploying cloud based solutions for the creation, growth and security of residential, business and education estates. 

Grant Hancock

Born and educated in Durban KZN. Grant, a degreed engineer spent 6 years in the UK contracting to London Transport developing and deploying mobile security and ticketing solutions to their fleet of busses and trains. 

After selling the business he was running in the UK, Grant, along with a now young family, returned to Durban to start a mobile security business in South Africa. After growing and then selling his mobile security company in 2014, he started a software design company developing visitor management.

Grant’s exposure to these industries has left him with a passion for community security, and an understanding of the importance of a safe and nurturing environment for our children, to ensure a better tomorrow.
